I NEED HELP! My roommate and I are looking for Halloween costumes and we can't decide what to be. We want to be clever, but we also want to look cute ( Mean Girls said it best: Halloween is an excuse for chicks to let the inner whore out). Our problem is we're not sexpot enough for the truly slutty (i.e. cops, nurses and playboy bunnies) and we're not clever and self-effacing enough for the truly funny. Here are our best three ideas (bulleted, naturally):
- Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen: We would dress up as skeletons and wear blonde wigs, huge sunglasses and Mary Kate and Ashley name tags. Pros: It's a funny idea, probably our funniest, and it's also most identifiable. People would get it. Cons: Skeleton costumes? Sooo not hot.
- Spelling Bees: We'd invest in some hot-looking bee costumes, buy some felt, and pin letters all over ourselves. Pros: So cute! And also clever, and the big bonus is people will get it, even if we're occasionally not in the same room as one another (which is likely...we're roommates, we aren't dating). Cons: Will we look like total tools dressed as the exact same thing? This isn't exactly a duo costume. It's more like one good idea shared by two creatively stunted people. Plus... wings. Ew.
- Mary Ann and Ginger from Gilligan's Island:For Ginger, a red wig and a glam dress. For Mary Ann, farmgirl stuff. Pros:Hot. Good duo idea. Cons: Not the cleverest idea we came up with, plus, without a Gilligan or a Skipper, would people get it? We could, potentially, come up with a Gilligan. But would we really want him cramping our style at every Halloween soiree we attend?
Your thoughts and further suggestions are appreciated, as you are each infinitely more clever than I.

Of those three, I'm the biggest fan of the mary ann and ginger one. If you're together, maybe people will get it, maybe they won't. If you're apart they'll probably just think you are a farm girl and a starlet, respectively. Even less creative than Mary Ann and Ginger? Yes. But whatever.

I am also a fan of the Mary Ann and Ginger one, but only because of the hot factor. But I won't get to be there, so you two could go as a pair of burlap sacks and it wouldn't make a difference to me in that department.

You could go as a pirate. When cleaning out my folks' house, I found a steering wheel to a ship, I don't know why they had it. Anyway, I was going to go as my favorite pirate joke, and build a little rig to attach that steering wheel to my crotch. (the punchline was: "Arr, it's been driving me nuts!") But I discovered recently that they sold that wheel in a garage sale. No clue how they managed that. If you don't want to go as a duo but still want to coordinate, you could go as Roman/Greek goddesses, or maybe witches. Harry Potter-esque witches maybe?

Oh shit, what are you going to do now?

I seriously don't know. I was banking on that wheel. Not that I have a party to go to or anything. It's just as well I suppose.

Take the wheel off the mazda and glue that to your junk. Also, I guess that's only marginally less sad than me going to my sister's party again.

Nothing wrong with going to your sisters' party if she has hot friends.

I'm also in agreement on Mary Ann and Ginger. Honestly, if people don't get it then they're stupid and you don't want to spend time with them anyway. Because If I saw a starlet and a farm girl (provided you wore the right costumes), I'd instantly think Mary Ann and Ginger. But I'm a snob, so I may not be the best person to ask.

I'm sure this is in poor taste, but you could be Mary Ann and Ginger mourning the death of Gilligan... And I can be your Skipper.

FUN! I kind of like the bees. It's the most original out of the three and you can be cute and hot in those costumes. Hey, I never got an invite to your supposed halloween party. Is that happening or what?

Yes, Gilligan died recently, correct? The only thing I'll say is that the bee wings would probably be very annoying to wear, esp. if there is inclement weather and you'll be wearing a coat or something. -- P.M.
